✔ When you replace your tyres – New tyres should always be balanced and aligned for optimal performance.
✔ If you feel vibrations, pulling, or uneven wear – These are clear signs something is off, and waiting will only make it worse.

How Long Does a Wheel Last?

This is another question I hear a lot—how long should wheels and tyres actually last? The answer depends on several factors, including driving habits, road conditions, and maintenance.

🚗 On average, a good set of tyres lasts between 40,000 – 80,000 km. However, this depends on:
✔ Driving style – Aggressive driving wears tyres faster.
✔ Road conditions – Rough roads and potholes can shorten tyre lifespan.
✔ Regular maintenance – Proper balancing, alignment, and tyre rotation extend tyre life.

📌 Tip from experience: If you’re unsure about your tyre’s condition, a quick “20c coin test” can help. Insert a 20-cent coin into the tyre tread—if the tread doesn’t cover the “20” fully, it’s time for new tyres.

How to Choose the Right Tyre Brand for Your Car

I’ve had customers come in overwhelmed by tyre brands—some just want the cheapest option, while others think the most expensive brand is automatically the best. The truth is, the best tyre for your car depends on how and where you drive.

Here’s a quick guide:

✔ City Driving & Everyday Use – Brands like Bridgestone, Michelin, and Pirelli offer great durability and comfort.
✔ Off-Road & 4WD – Look for all-terrain or mud-terrain tyres from brands like BFGoodrich or Cooper.
✔ High-Performance & Sports Cars – Go for performance tyres like Continental or Pirelli for better grip.
✔ Budget-Friendly & Reliable – Hankook and Kumho offer decent performance at a lower price.

📌 Tip from experience: If you’re unsure, always check your car’s manufacturer recommendations—they’ll specify the best tyre size and type for your vehicle.

How Do You Know When It’s Time to Change Your Tyres?

Even if you take care of your tyres, they don’t last forever. Here’s how to tell when it’s time for a new set:

🔹 Tread Wear Indicator: Most tyres have built-in tread wear bars—if they’re flush with the tread, the tyre needs replacing.
🔹 Cracks or Bulges: If you see cracks on the sidewall or bulges in the tyre, it’s time for a replacement.
🔹 Loss of Grip: If your car starts sliding more in wet conditions, your tread may be too worn.
🔹 Increased Road Noise: Worn-out tyres can cause excessive noise while driving.

What to Do If You Have a Nail in Your Tyre?

This is a question I hear all the time—“I found a nail in my tyre, what should I do?”

First of all, don’t panic and don’t pull it out just yet.

✔ Check for air loss: If your tyre is still holding air, drive carefully to a service centre.
✔ Don’t remove the nail yourself: Sometimes, the nail actually helps seal the hole temporarily. Pulling it out could cause rapid air loss.
✔ Get it inspected: A professional can tell you if it can be repaired or if you need a replacement.
✔ Temporary fix: If you’re in a bind, you can use a tyre repair kit, but this is only a short-term solution—get it properly fixed ASAP.
